When I cast my mind back to the summer of 1999, different and delightful memories offer themselves to me. Let's just say that I loved working on the play much, much more than chocolate biscuits. I adored watching the rehearsal period where ordinary actors were transformed into: Conservative Kate, Mischievous Michael, Ridiculous Rose, Mighty Maggie, Admirable Agnes, Cautious Christina, Jittery Jack and Gigolo Gerry. Being Stage Manager was rather demanding as I have never had the joy before of working in such a... well-equipped kitchen!

The run went quite smoothly for the cast and crew, except on Opening Night, when I caused a rather interesting incident. If Maggie could've, she would've gone back to Ryanga with Jack, taken me with them and fed me to the wild animals!

Thank you to Ms Hardie, who has once again directed a fantastic piece of theatre, Mr Stevenson, Mr Natali, Ms Knight and countless other teachers, as well as, of course, the cast and crew.

"Dancing at Lughnasa" will be joyously remembered by everyone, like a picture? No... a camera picture? What's the word? A ceremony? No, not this time... Um... Oh yes! A photograph that superbly depicts the atmosphere of the 1930s and human nature.

"Wow, wow, wow, wow!" I'm so glad that the characters did get to dance, to be blissfully spellbound, even if only for a few minutes. Unfortunately the spell was always broken, trapping them in an unnecessarily harsh reality. I wish they could have danced more often! Dancing, as if weaknesses no longer existed, because fear was no longer necessary.

KATE (Daniela Wingate)
